Ian Rennie Robertson

What made you get into art?

My interest in art was first and foremost the result of the generosity and support of an art teacher at school. He provided a way to see the world in a new and exciting way. Art I believe has the potential to do this.

What challenges do you have as an artist?

The challenges facing artists today despite radical changes in technology and advances in science are the same as they ever were. To contribute to the beauty of the world an to express our joy in it.

What’s your inspiration?

My inspiration has always been to respond to a place or space either in nature or person. Essentially to allow the place or space to reveal something about itself.

What’s your dream?

My dream is for the world to become a safer, more beautiful and more just place. I believe that art can in a small way contribute to that process.

If you could own any piece of art ever created what would you choose?

The piece of art I would choose is a Rembrandt self portrait from his later period. It is in these works there comes together an unequaled expression.
